Day 5 ... Black Canyon of the Gunnison

Today was the first day that we didn't have to be on the road bright and early. We took our time this morning and tried to make chocolate chip waffles for breakfast ... it didn't work out too well, so we switched gears to chocolate chip pancakes instead!

After we cleaned everything up, we headed to the park to see the canyon. We stared with an area called East Portal, which gave us a chance to drive down to the bottom of the canyon to the river. It was some drive down in the canyon!!! When we got to the bottom, Josh had a chance to put his hand in the river. You can ask him how it felt!

We then drove back up to the canyon rim and drove the South Rim drive, stopping at the various view points along the way and doing some short, and one not so short hike.

Pictures really can't do this place justice ... it's just too much to capture with a picture, but here's a couple anyway.

When we got back to the campground this evening, we decided to cook all of our uncooked meat.

Unfortunately, our refrigeration/cooling is not going as well as I had hoped, and I figured if we cooked everything, it would last a little longer. So, we made meatballs, chicken parmigiana and barbecued chicken. Now we have dinner already made for the next four or five nights!!!

Tomorrow morning, we leave for Arches National Park. We most likely won't have cellular access there, so this may be the last blog post for a couple of days.

We'll be back in touch when we can!
